The Promises of Ophir - An African Odyssee

Johann Christoph Steffler leaves Magdeburg at the beginning of the 18th Century to join the Dutch East India Company in Amsterdam.

He is sent to the Cape of Good Hope to go into the Interior in search of the Gold of Ophir.

300 years later an University student finds Steffler's journal and retraces his steps.

He discovers the Gold of Ophir.

The German Cultural Institute Goethe Institut has shown the film in 7 African countries.
